「whose」的意思和用法
首先就從「whose」的意思和用法開始說明。學習「whose」用法的兩個重點如下:
①關係代名詞
②疑問代名詞
關係代名詞的「whose」
「whose」的第一個用法是表示「〜的」的關係代名詞。
用「名詞+whose 〜」這樣的形式時，它是用來說明前面的名詞。
I have a friend whose name is Melody.
我有個叫做Melody的朋友。
上面這句中，「whose name is Melody」這個句子是用來修飾前面的「friend」。
因為「whose」是所有格，所以就是「friend」擁有的「name」，修飾句的主詞就變成是「朋友的名字」了。此外，「whose」先行詞不只可以是人，也可以是動物或是物品。
I saw a dog whose legs were long.
我看到了腳很長的狗。
⇨因為腳是狗所擁有的，所以可以用「whose」。
疑問代名詞的「whose」
「whose」並不只能當作關係代名詞，它也可以是疑問代名詞。「whose」作為疑問代名詞使用的情況，有以下兩種。
「Whose+名詞（誰的〜）」
Whose car is this?
這是誰的車子？
Whose shoes are these?
這些是誰的鞋子？
「Whose+be動詞+名詞（’名詞’是誰的東西）」
Whose is this smartphone?
這支手機是誰的？
Whose is this land?
這塊土地是誰的？
①和②都是同樣的意思，就只是「是誰的？」和「(名詞)〜是誰的東西？」這樣，講法稍微有點不同而已。

I have a friend whose hair is very long. She rarely gets a haircut.
我有個頭髮很長的朋友。她很少去剪頭髮。
I know a woman whose mother is an American. She speaks English fluently because she was taught English by her mother as a child.
我認識一位媽媽是美國人的女性。因為從小她媽媽就教她說英文，所以她的英文很流利。
I don’t know whose car this is though, it’s been here since the beginning of the week.

「who’s」的意思和用法
接著來解說「who’s」的用法。「who’s」是以下2者的縮寫。
①who is
②who has
來詳細的看看吧。
「who’s」=「who is」
「who’s」是「who is」的省略形式。發音和「whose」相同。
把它想成是和「She is」變成「She’s」、「He is」變成「He’s」一樣的感覺就可以了。
Who is coming to the party tonight?
今晚誰會來參加派對？
也可以把上面句子中「Who is」的部份省略，說成
Who’s coming to the party tonight?
「who’s」=「who has」
「who’s」不只可以是「who is」的縮寫，也可以是「who has」的縮寫。和把「She has」寫成「She’s」、或是把「He has」省略成「He’s」一樣。
不過，這個場合的「has」是現在完成式會用到的「have」的第三人稱單數現在形。如果是有「擁有」意思的「have」，它就不能被省略，這點請注意。
I have a friend who has lived in Hawaii.
我有個曾住在夏威夷的朋友。
把上面句子中「who has」的部分省略，也可以說成是
I have a friend who’s lived in Hawaii.
